Recognition of the Institute of Chemistry's Outstanding Colleagues of 2025

As part of a European Research Council (ERC) Synergy Grant project, archaeologist Mari Tõrv from the University of Tartu will study how hunter-gatherers across the Northern hemisphere achieved significant population growth and social complexity long before agriculture and cattle farming became the dominating way of life. Tõrv’s research team will contribute to the project with material analysis from the Baltic region.

Tõnis Laasfeld is a Research Fellow of Bioorganic Chemistry at the University of Tartu in the Institute of Chemistry and a data scientist at Proekspert. On August 29th of this year, under the supervision of professor of Bioorganic Chemistry Ago Rinken and Dr Leopold Parts.

On the first floor of the Delta study building, you can see Kärt Summatavet's new exhibition, "Cosmic Dance".

On 6 November, the council of the Institute of Chemistry elected Research Fellow of Physical Chemistry Piret Pikma as the new head of the institute. Pikma will start work on 1 January 2024, when the term of office of the current director, Professor Enn Lust, ends.

In the Delta study building, you can admire the new painting exhibition "Paternoster Square", where the artist Urmo Raus presents his works.
