The development of hydrogen technology and the application of scientific research in industry are playing an increasingly important role due to the growing significance of renewable energy. In the University of Tartu Institute of Chemisty's podcast „Tuleviku energeetika – energeetika tulevik“, hosts Karl-Ander Kasuk and Ove Oll discussed the current state of hydrogen technology and the challenges of commercializing scientific discoveries with Silver Sepp, co-founder of H2Electro OÜ.

Several topics related to the scientific and business environment were covered.

The development of hydrogen technology and its role in renewable energy storage
Silver Sepp explained that one of the most efficient methods for hydrogen production is the solid oxide electrolyzer, which has broader applications beyond just being used as fuel. It can also be utilized for carbon dioxide capture and the production of synthetic fuels, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and support the green transition.

Obstacles and opportunities in commercializing scientific research
Sepp pointed out that less than 10% of university research actually reaches practical application. The main barriers include a lack of entrepreneurial skills, scientists losing focus, and limited awareness of market opportunities. To integrate science more effectively into business, university education should place greater emphasis on developing practical solutions.

The development of hydrogen technology in Estonia and sources of information
Interest in hydrogen technology is growing in Estonia. To stay informed, it is recommended to follow H2Electro's activities online and on social media and to participate in the University of Tartu’s free online course on hydrogen technology and renewable energy. Additionally, Hydrogen Day is held annually, providing an opportunity to explore the latest scientific and business trends.
