On 9–10 October, the 9th Tartu Hydrogen Days will take place at Physicum and Chemicum, bringing together scientists, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to discuss the role of hydrogen in ensuring Estonia’s energy security. Interested participants are asked to register by 3 October.
9 October – Business Day
The Business Day will open with a speech by Tartu’s Mayor Urmas Klaas, and the day will be moderated by Karl Ander Kasuk. Presentations will cover innovative hydrogen solutions and strategic investments in the Nordic and Baltic countries, the use of fuel cells in the defence sector, data-driven solutions in hydrogen production and logistics networks, and the development of sustainable infrastructure in ports.
The day will conclude with a high-level panel discussion “Hydrogen – a key technology for Estonia’s energy security and national defence?”, moderated by Ove Oll, Research Fellow in Physical Chemistry at the University of Tartu. Panellists include international and local experts, among them Carmen Font, CEO of the consulting company Font Corporation, Aivo Lokk, Head of Business Analysis at Utilitas Eesti, and Vijay Sirse, CEO of Destiny Energy Estonia OÜ. The discussion will focus on how hydrogen technologies can strengthen Estonia’s energy security and support national defence.
10 October – Science Day
The Science Day will focus on the scientific and technical foundations of hydrogen. The opening address will be delivered by Mari Moora, Vice Rector for Research at the University of Tartu. Presentations will explore hydrogen’s role in balancing energy systems, the development of new storage materials and catalysts, and the importance of education in shaping the future of hydrogen in Estonia.
The day will end with a discussion “Multi-stakeholder collaboration of hydrogen organisations”, focusing on how to build a strong and sustainable hydrogen ecosystem through cooperation. The panel will be moderated by Priit Ilomets, Head of the Hydrogen Technologies Division at AS Metrosert, and will feature representatives from various organisations and sectors, including Simo Säynenvirta, CEO of the hydrogen technology developer H2 Springboard, Ain Laidoja, Executive Director of the Estonian Hydrogen Technologies Association, and Sven Parkel, CEO of the Estonian Hydrogen Cluster.
