The University of Tartu opened admission to studies in “Excellence in Analytical Chemistry”

Until 31 January 2015, applications are open for the international master programme “EACH – Excellence in Analytical Chemistry” that starts in autumn 2015. The programme is coordinated by the University of Tartu and carried out in the cooperation of four European universities.

This is the first Erasmus Mundus programme to be coordinated by an Estonian university. In the first academic year, students acquire the basics at the University of Tartu, studying in the Applied Measurement Science programme. The second academic year is oriented to practical skills and is spent at one of the three partner universities: Université Claude Bernard Lyon 1, Åbo Akademi or Uppsala Universitet.

Due to the European Union funding, the application period takes place earlier than for other programmes at UT. Applicants must submit their application documents by 31 January 2015. After the applicants have been evaluated and the admission decisions have been made, the best admitted students will be proposed for the Erasmus Mundus scholarship. Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA) of the European Commission takes the final decision regarding scholarship allocation.

“Thanks to the European Union funding, which primarily means very good scholarships for students, we can create a truly international joint programme on the basis of Applied Measurement Science,” said Professor of Analytical Chemistry Ivo Leito. Leito added that the strengths of three partner universities – in industrial analytical chemistry, sensors and biochemical analysis, respectively – are an excellent complement to the strengths of the University of Tartu in the fundamental topics of analytic chemistry and metrology in chemistry.

The studies are financed by the European Union from the action Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees of the Erasmus+ programme.
